In 1978 New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language was founded by a group of Chinese parents wanting their next generation to learn their heritage language Chinese. Since then our school has gone through various changes to meet the needs of our students to learn Chinese. Our school has enrolled over 1,800 children and adults to teach them to read, write, and speak Chinese and to appreciate one of the world’s richest and oldest cultures. 

Language Classes and Extra-Curricular Classes

Our school offers both Simplified/Pinyin and Traditional/Zhuyin Chinese classes. We also offer English speaking classes for the learning of Chinese. Our school holds classes each Sunday from 1:30pm to 4:00pm at AIMS@UNM school site, which is across from Albuquerque Isotopes Park. Language instruction classes are held from 1:30pm to 3:00pm followed by extra-curricular classes from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. Extra-curricular classes (free) include Chinese chess, Ball Room Dance and Latin DanceChinese calligraphy, Music, and Arts and Crafts. Tuition: 
$120 per student; 
$90 for children of full-time UNM students; 
$60 for the 3rd child from same family and all children of NMCSAL teachers. 

The minimum age for children to attend our school is five years old. We welcome adults students.

Music Class

We offer a new extra curricular class, Music Appreciation and Vocal Technical, for students ten years or older, and adults. This class will provide students a basic music foundation which is essential for a vocal performer.

  • The time is from 3:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday.

  • The teacher, Ms. Huang, is an undergraduate student at UNM Music department.

The summary for the class:

This course includes two parts, music appreciation and vocal technique.  Music appreciation is teaching students what to listen for and how to understand what they are hearing in different types of music. Vocal technique is teaching students how to use the scientific vocal technique and how to express emotions through singing.

Dance Class

Our dancing instructor, Xihan Wen, graduated at Beijing Opera Art's College in China.  She is good at the national dance, and has experience in teaching dance in a fun and easy way.  This course aims to help students acquire funs, enjoyments, grace, poise, and much more through the appreciation and practice of dance.

On September 23, 2018, the New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language celebrated the Chinese Moon Festival in Albuquerque. Each of students and teachers ate the traditional moon cake, and they enjoyed all kinds of activities such as Play Chess, Idiom Solitaire, Pingpang game and so on. Some parents involved these interesting activities as well. 

On February 18, 2018, the New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language celebrated the Chinese New Year and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese School in Albuquerque. It was a joyful day filled with celebration and appreciation. The main highlight is the students' celebration performances. There are more than 8 kinds of performances, such as short play, song, flute duet, Chinese Martial Arts, completing  the ancient Poems, and so on. 2018年夏季,本校马筱露老师参加了由俄亥俄州拖莱多大学举办的星谈中文教师领袖营的教师培训。Our school teacher, Ms. Annie Ma, participated in a teaching training of STARTALK-CHEIER holded by University of Toledo Ohio. It is a Chinese Leadership program for teacher training during the Summer of 2018.

2012年夏季 本校谢飞亚老师参加了由国家侨办和厦门华侨大学举办的海外华文教师汉语言文化培训. Our school teacher, Ms Xie, attended "Oversea Chinese Language and Culture Education 2012 Summer Camp". Here is the presentation.
