History

The New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. In 1978 the New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language was founded by a group of Chinese parents wanting their next generation to learn both the Chinese culture and heritage Chinese language. Since then our school has gone through various changes to meet the needs of our students to learn Chinese. In serving society over the past four decades, our school has helped more than 2,000 children and adults learn to speak and write Chinese and appreciate one of the richest and oldest cultures in the world.

The New Mexico Chinese Art and Language School is run by a group of volunteers. We desperately need parent volunteers. If you are interested, please fill out the volunteer form:

Language Classes and Extracurricular Classes

Our school offers Simplified/Pinyin(简体中文拼音班), Phonetic/Zhuyin(注音繁體中文班) and Mandarin for English Speakers. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, we held our classes online through Zoom (Thank you Zoom for providing free service to our school). Beginning fall 2022, we will be back to in-person classes to be held at Menaul School (address: 301 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107). 

Language classes are held from 1:30pm to 3:00pm on Sundays followed by extra-curricular classes (free for registered students) from 3:00pm to 4:00pm.

Tuition: 

$140 per student.

$110 per children of full-time UNM students. 

$110 per person for Menaul School employees, students and children of Menaul School employees.

$110 per child for former board members who have served for three years or more. 

$70 for the 3rd child from the same family and all children of NMCSAL teachers. 

The minimum age for children to attend our school is five years old. We welcome Adult students.

On September 11, 2022, the New Mexico School of Chinese Arts and Languages ​​celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival at Menaul School. The students learned about the traditions of this special holiday. ABQ Happy Dancing Group performed the dance. Our teachers prepared games for everyone to have fun. Please click on the image above to see more pictures.

2022 Graduation Ceremony

On May 8th of 2022 New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language celebrated its 2022 graduation ceremony at Menaul School. Congratulations to our graduating senior Daniel Feng! Professor Aijuan Cun of UNM shared her Chinese language learning research project with parents and students. Mr. Chris Ferrara took us on a tour of the beautiful Menual School campus.

On Sept 21, 2021, New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language celebrated the Mid Autumn Festival  online through Zoom. Students learnt about the traditions of celebrating  this special day.  Please click the picture above to enjoy the video. 

On February 14, 2021, New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language celebrated the Chinese New Year online through Zoom. All teachers and students participated in the show. On September 15, 2019, the New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language celebrated the Chinese Moon Festival in Albuquerque. Teacher Qiyun Li and the dance team brought us beautiful traditional Chinese dance performance. Students from Pinyin 5 (Teacher Yichun Wang) also told us the origin of Mid-autumn Festival. Furthermore, each of students and teachers ate the traditional moon cake, and they enjoyed all kinds of activities such as Play Chess, Idiom Solitaire, Pingpang game and so on. Some parents involved these interesting activities as well. 

On February 3, 2019, New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language celebrated the Chinese New Year in Albuquerque. It was a joyful day filled with celebration and appreciation. The main highlight is the students' celebration performances. There are more than 8 kinds of performances, such as Drama, Puppet Show, Chorus, Flute duet, Dance, completing  the Chinese Poetry, and so on. Every one of these performances was enjoyed by the audiences.

2021 Graduation Ceremony: On May 2, 2021, our school awarded the "Teacher Appreciation Award" to two teachers, "Outstanding Service Award" to one board member, "Graduation Award" to seven students, and "Outstanding Student Award" to two students. Congratulations to all awardees.

2021 Chinese New Year Celebration

2021 City of Albuquerque Youth & Education Grant: Vice Principal Vicki Poon, Treasurer Haiyan Zhao and our student volunteer Dana Poon worked together and applied for the City of Albuquerque Youth & Education Recover Grant. We are grateful to Mayor Keller and his staff for supporting our school with the City of Albuquerque Recovery Grant during the pandemic. The grant of $10,000 allowed our school to continue to provide language instructions without interruption.

2018年夏季,本校马筱露老师参加了由俄亥俄州拖莱多大学举办的星谈中文教师领袖营的教师培训. Our school teacher, Ms. Annie Ma, participated in a teaching training of STARTALK-CHEIER hold by University of Toledo Ohio. It is a Chinese Leadership program for teacher training during the Summer of 2018.

2014 Outstanding Service Award presented to two board members, two teachers, and one teacher assistant. New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language honored their dedication and commitment.

2013 Chinese New Year Celebration: Our school has successfully organized 2013 Chinese new year party on February 10, 2013 at Auditorium, Domenici Center for Health Sciences Education. 

2012年夏季 本校谢飞亚老师参加了由国家侨办和厦门华侨大学举办的海外华文教师汉语言文化培训. Our school teacher, Ms Xie, attended "Oversea Chinese Language and Culture Education 2012 Summer Camp". Here is the presentation.

2012年1月10日  驻洛杉矶总领事邱绍芳会见新墨西哥州侨学界代表, 并捐赠新墨西哥州中文学校1000美元。
