New Mexico Chinese School's 2024 Fall semester starts on Aug 11th, 2024 with classes held at Menaul School (301 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107). Online registration is now open. Please complete the online registration form as soon as possible, so that we can prepare enough textbooks before the school starts. Welcome to New Mexico Chinese School!
History
Established in 1978 by a group of Chinese parents, the New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to provide an immersive experience in Chinese culture and language for the next generation. With a continuous focus on meeting evolving student needs, our school ensures the highest quality education in learning Chinese. Through our programs, we have empowered and guided over 2,000 children and adults to master the art of speaking, reading, and writing Chinese. Our comprehensive approach not only enhances language skills but also cultivates a deep understanding of the richness and beauty of Chinese culture. Join us on this remarkable journey of discovery and growth, as we make a positive impact on individuals who are passionate about Chinese language and culture.
Language Classes and Extracurricular Classes
Our school offers Simplified/Pinyin(简体中文拼音班), Phonetic/Zhuyin(注音繁體中文班) and Mandarin for English Speakers. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we seamlessly transitioned our classes online, utilizing the Zoom platform (We are thankful to Zoom for providing free services to our school during the pandemic). Starting from fall 2022, we successfully resumed in-person classes, which are now held at Menaul School. (address: 301 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107).
Language classes are scheduled from 1:30pm to 3:00pm on Sundays, followed by optional extra-curricular classes from 3:00pm to 4:00pm (free for registered students).
We welcome students from all ages and backgrounds!
Tuition:
$150 per student.
$120 per children of full-time UNM students.
$120 per person for Menaul School employees, students and children of Menaul School employees.
$120 per child for former board members who have served for three years or more.
$75 for the 3rd child from the same family and all children of NMCSAL teachers.
Text books:
$10 per set (could be adjusted with market change).

The 26th Annual Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Festival hosted at the Nuclear Museum on Saturday, May 6, 2024. Students from our school performed songs and dances. School teachers and volunteers set up tables displaying Chinese calligraphy and paper cutting.
On April 20, the Chinese Language Teachers Association of New Mexico and Menaul School hosted the 2nd New Mexico Chinese Speech Contest and Talent Show. 5 students from our school participated in the speech contest and won awards. Amanda Liu won the championship in the 9-12th grade heritage group. Ruigan Guo won the championship in the 3-8th grade heritage group. Angela Sun won the third place in the 3-8th grade heritage group. Hiuki Chen and Shawn Zhou received certificates of participation in the 3-8th grade heritage group. 8 Students from our school participating in the talent show: Grace Xue, Remington Huang, Amiya Sun, Lucas Floyd, Lena LeRay, Shawn Zhou, Reigen Guo, Angela Sun. Most of the students participating in this competition are from University of New Mexico, New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language, V. Sue Cleveland High School, Menaul School, Albuquerque Prospect Chinese Academy.

On October 1st, 2023, the New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language came alive with the vibrant celebrations of the Mid-Autumn Festival at Menaul School. The dancing performed by the Happy Dance group captivated the audience with their graceful movements and adde a special touch to the festivities. Our dedicated teachers contributed to the joyous occasion by organizing an array of fun games, ensuring that both children and parents could actively participate and create lasting memories. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a shared appreciation for cultural traditions.
On May 7th, 2023, the New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language celebrated its 2023 graduation ceremony at Menaul School. Congratulations to Jeffrey Zhuang, our graduating senior! We also awarded the "Outstanding Service Award" to 2 emeritus board members, the "Outstanding Student Award" to 1 student, and the "School Logo Designer Award" to 5 talented designers. On September 11, 2022, the New Mexico School of Chinese Arts and Languages celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival at Menaul School. The students learned about the traditions of this special holiday. On May 8th of 2022 New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language celebrated its 2022 graduation ceremony at Menaul School. Congratulations to our graduating senior Daniel Feng! Professor Aijuan Cun of UNM shared her Chinese language learning research project with parents and students. Mr. Chris Ferrara took us on a tour of the beautiful Menual School campus.

On September 15, 2019, the New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language celebrated the Chinese Moon Festival in Albuquerque. Teacher Qiyun Li and the dance team brought us beautiful traditional Chinese dance performance. Students from Pinyin 5 (Teacher Yichun Wang) also told us the origin of Mid-autumn Festival. Furthermore, each of students and teachers ate the traditional moon cake, and they enjoyed all kinds of activities such as Play Chess, Idiom Solitaire, Pingpang game and so on. Some parents involved these interesting activities as well.
On February 3, 2019, New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language celebrated the Chinese New Year in Albuquerque. It was a joyful day filled with celebration and appreciation. The main highlight is the students' celebration performances. There are more than 8 kinds of performances, such as Drama, Puppet Show, Chorus, Flute duet, Dance, completing the Chinese Poetry, and so on. Every one of these performances was enjoyed by the audiences.

2021 Graduation Ceremony: On May 2, 2021, our school awarded the "Teacher Appreciation Award" to two teachers, "Outstanding Service Award" to one board member, "Graduation Award" to seven students, and "Outstanding Student Award" to two students. Congratulations to all awardees.

2021 City of Albuquerque Youth & Education Grant: Vice Principal Vicki Poon, Treasurer Haiyan Zhao and our student volunteer Dana Poon worked together and applied for the City of Albuquerque Youth & Education Recover Grant. We are grateful to Mayor Keller and his staff for supporting our school with the City of Albuquerque Recovery Grant during the pandemic. The grant of $10,000 allowed our school to continue to provide language instructions without interruption.

2018年夏季,本校马筱露老师参加了由俄亥俄州拖莱多大学举办的星谈中文教师领袖营的教师培训. Our school teacher, Ms. Annie Ma, participated in a teaching training of STARTALK-CHEIER hold by University of Toledo Ohio. It is a Chinese Leadership program for teacher training during the Summer of 2018.

2014 Outstanding Service Award presented to two board members, two teachers, and one teacher assistant. New Mexico Chinese School of Arts and Language honored their dedication and commitment.
2013 Chinese New Year Celebration: Our school has successfully organized 2013 Chinese new year party on February 10, 2013 at Auditorium, Domenici Center for Health Sciences Education.
2012年夏季 本校谢飞亚老师参加了由国家侨办和厦门华侨大学举办的海外华文教师汉语言文化培训. Our school teacher, Ms Xie, attended "Oversea Chinese Language and Culture Education 2012 Summer Camp". Here is the presentation.
